Here at the 305th Services Library, McGuire AFB, NJ, we've recently started a book discussion group focusing on the books in our AF CoS/ Wing Commander Book collections. Please feel free to let us know what your reading -- good and bad alike. In the near future I'll be posting a complete list of all the books in that collection.
I'm currently reading "Good to Great: Why Some Companies Make the Leap... and Others Don't" by Jim Collins. It's amazing the amount of research that was done to ultimately categorize a company as truly great. What's also fascinating so far is that Collins says it's not the "celebrity" leader who makes a company great. Let's face it, we all know a boss/leader who hopes his/her company will fail after their departure, because in the long run, it's all about them!

It goes further than that. Collins says that great companies come from "disciplined people engaged in disciplined thought who take disciplined action." He may overstate the anti-charisma aspect of successful leadership but what really jumps out of the book is that his leaders are determined and unflinching in their willingness to face the hard truths.
